This morning on my way into work, I stopped to check the mail. Inside I found this:
There were two copies. One addressed to me, one addressed to BJ. I try to be open minded, on the back of the sleeve it was mailed in I see the return address is the Clarion Fund. I’ve never heard of that, so I decide to reserve judgement until I get to my cubicle and can look up the Clarion Fund — even though there is a red banner across the front stating: “AS SEEN ON CNN AND FOX NEWS BY MORE THAN 20 MILLION VIEWERS WORLDWIDE”.
Once I get to my cubicle, I look up Clarion Fund. The web page baffles me, all it does is tell me that the fund is a non-profit 501 3 (c). No Board of Directors, no Executive Director that I can research and find out more about. Very very fishy.
So, I google Obsession and find the movie site. That doesn’t tell me much more, but I do find out who the filmmakers are. Wayne Kopping and Raphael Shore, not much about them online except that Shore is the Founder of the Clarion Fund.
I did manage to find this on Popular Progressive. It talks about how the Fund is paying for 28 million copies of the documentary in newspapers in swing states. And here’s another story over on Islamic Workplace. Oh, and another at More Ramblings: Simply Erratic Thoughts.
Seems like everyone wants to know: Who or what the heck is the Clarion Fund?!?!!? And who in the world are they sponsored by!??!?!?!?!?!
Here’s a possibility put forth by Abdiel: Islam on the West Coast.
What do you think?

dude..i received this too in the mail! it’s still on the table.. i’m thinking it has propaganda written all over it, but i figure i’ll watch it eventually to see what it’s about.
Someone in my race and immigration class got it in with her news paper last Sunday. Apparently to St. Pete Times and a few other well to do news sources are distributing it as well. I also got a copy in the mail the other day. From the cover I can tell its propaganda. I want to watch it but at the same time I don’t want to entertain them.
This is a nasty scare tactic backed by right wing Republicans aimed at registered independents in battleground states. It states right on the DVD envelope “It’s our responsibility to ensure we can all make an informed vote in November.” With Republican anti-terrorist hatred at fever pitch, it is indeed frightening to realize that our own people would stoop so low as to try this sort of ploy. The desperation in the Republican camp during this campaign to date is perhaps the dirtiest and ugliest yet in U.S. history. They will stop at nothing to discredit Obama, because attacking him is McCain’s only card left he can play. Don’t fall for it. Read the foreign policy positions of both candidates, and make a decision based on facts, not emotional distortion.
I received the DVD in the mail and was not sure what it was or about so I looked it up and have read alot of comments listed about it. It looks to me like most people are discrediting Christians, well as one, let me just say…..the Bible says that Christians will be persecuted just like Christ was….so you non beleivers keep on fullfilling the prophecy of the Bible because one day EVERY HEAD will BOW and EVERY TOUNGE WILL CONFESS THAT JESUS CHRIST IS LORD. Then we will see what you have to say….and yeah I probably will watch this DVD, because I want to be informed from all ends, then I will investigate the material for myself and see what is the real deal.
I see no mention of Christians until yours Lisa.
“I see no mention of Christians until yours Lisa”
Nor do I Lisa. This is not about the persecution of Christians it’s about the distortion of truth, the manipulation of an election, and ethics. You as a Christian should understand this I’m sure. No doubt there are muslims that have gone off the deep end but just remember that Timothy McVeigh went off the deep end as well but no one is trying to make a connection between him and McCain.
